Ah. Long weekends. Three days of infinite bliss. Or it could be an additional day to read more, explore more, and well, write more! So write more it is!

Whilst browsing through the world wide web, I came across this book tag – Who Am I? Book Tag through my fellow blogger, A Little Haze Book Blog. It is an interesting one and I clicked it at the right time as I was on the hunt for a book tag I can do. A part of my 2019 reading resolution is to do a book tag at least once a month.

Who Am I? Book Tag is comprised of seven questions and is meant to let other readers know more about the blogger/reader. At first, I was a bit daunted by the questions but then I got into the flow. Without further ado, here’s my version of the Who Am I? Book Tag! Happy reading and to my fellow Filipinos, happy long weekend!

QUESTION 1:
IF YOUR LIFE WERE A BOOK GENRE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Wow, starting off with a tough one…

If I were a book genre, I guess I’d be a combination of three genres – psychological fiction, magical realism and a healthy sprinkling of comedy here and there. I know, it is a perplexing albeit diverse mix, but that is how I see my life – a concoction of more than one thing. It wouldn’t be as interesting if it was purely black or white right? LOL.

QUESTION 2:
WHAT VILLAIN FROM A BOOK DO YOU IDENTIFY WITH THE MOST?

Let us see. I’ll have to pick Wuthering Heights’ Heathcliff for this. Yes, he is an unconventional choice but on certain levels, I do identify with his personality and how the hardships he had to go through molded him as an individual. On a behavioral and psychological stand point, I can relate with his personal madness. His varying sources of motivation and his ambiguous position in society are just some of the things that I think made it easier for me to pick him as my choice for this question.

QUESTION 3:
WHAT PROTAGONIST ARE YOU MOST SIMILAR TO?

Now to the opposite of the second question. Hmmm, this is certainly a more difficult one considering how many characters I have to step in and step out from the hundreds of books I have read. If I were to describe the character that would most resemble me, he would be a second-stringer, a second-hero type of character. He is highly independent but he lets someone else take the lead. He is not weak but he doesn’t have enough confidence to lead.

QUESTION 4:
WHICH BOOK DID YOU CONNECT WITH, IN THE PAST THAT YOU NO LONGER DO?

This is another tough question. Let me think about it.

I guess I’ll have to go with Nicola Yoon’s The Sun is Also a Star. I was simply in awe when I first read it. I was swept by Natasha and Daniel’s adventures and misadventures. It used to be that it has such luster; I even gave it a perfect 5 star rating. However, as I read more books, the book’s once luminous luster started to deem. I have to say, I am not as keen of it as I used to.

QUESTION 5:
WHAT RECENT BOOK READ WOULD YOU LOVE TO BE A CHARACTER IN?

32454291Madeline Miller’s Circe. Personally, it is vainglorious to project myself as a Greek God or even just a demi-god. However, I really do love Greek mythology (and mythology in general) that I don’t think there’s anything wrong being caught in one of these mythological settings. It would be a great experience walking down the halls of Greek gods and fanning their colossal egos.

Moreover, Circe is such an unusual character that it would be a pleasure watching her being a doting mother, lightyears away from the villain she was traditionally portrayed as.

QUESTION 6:
HOW DO YOUR READING HABITS SHOW OFF YOUR PERSONALITY?

One thing: I prefer the tranquility of reading a book all by myself over the pandemonium a crowd of people give. Moreover, the diversity of books I read also showcases the wide spectrum of things I am interested in. I don’t like putting myself in a box because I know that there is a huge amount of knowledge and experience lurking in every book. To live (at least proverbially) through one is an enchanting experience.

QUESTION 7:
WHAT BOOK TAUGHT YOU SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF?

The Monk of Mokha by Dave Eggers. The book taught me that for me to realize my dreams, I must chase it. If you want to achieve something, better act on it. There is no one else in this world who is going to push me towards it except myself. Nothing in this world comes easy.

I guess I have to mention one of the best coming-of-age books ever. J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye taught me two things. First, it is perfectly fine to be different from the person the world expects you to be. Second, there is nothing wrong in distancing yourself from the world in order to lick your wounds.
