I have always loved doing book tags as they both introduce me to my reader and make my brain churn for answers. It is no surprise that doing at least one book a tag a month is part of my 2019 Reading Resolution and Goals. For October, I am doing Anticipated Releases Book Tag, although it is kind of late into the year already.

I have come across Anticipated Releases Book Tag through A Little Haze Book Blog. It piqued my interest, hence, my own version. Besides, this is my first time doing a book tag about anticipated releases.

  1. Your Most Anticipated Book of the Year

I truly have no answer for this because I am not one to monitor authors and their new releases.

The closest answer I have for this question is Ocean Vuong’s On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous. Even though I barely had an iota on who Vuong was or what the novel was about, I placed it in my 2019 10 Books I Look Forward To List because my curiosity was piqued by the novel’s title. My anticipation grew when I learned of Vuong’s Vietnamese background and that this is his first venture into writing novels; he is originally a poet.

Thankfully, Vuong didn’t disappoint. On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is one of the most introspective work I’ve had in quite a while. Moreover, his fusion of nostalgia and lyrical writing was truly an exhilarating experience.

  1. A Book You’re Not Anticipating

At the onset, I didn’t have an answer for this one either but then it reminded me of my recent experience at the Manila International Book Fair.

During the book fair, I came across Lang Leav’s newest release, Poemsia. It reminded me of the bitter taste I had of Leav’s first novel, Sad Girls and how thoroughly disappointed I was. It was a far cry from Leav’s poetic mantle that I quite enjoyed. Upon checking Goodreads, I’m surprised of the high rating for Poemsia; it is making me rethink about my self-imposed ban. Hmm. Maybe I’ll read it. I’ll see.

  1. Most Underhyped Anticipated Release

I’m placing this here because I’ve never heard of Rushdie’s latest release until I came across the shortlist for the 2019 Man Booker Prize Award. This is surprising considering how popular Rushdie is. I guess I would have heard of it if it was more hyped. Over at Goodreads, it it receiving decent reviews. Thankfully, I was able to gain a copy of the book during the aforementioned Manila International Book Fair.

I really can’t think of one right now although there are many good authors out there whose works I really want to read. ASAP. I am just hampered right now by the utter number of unread books on my pile. LOL

Apart from Ocean Vuong’s On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous, I am looking forward to Sally Rooney’s Normal People. I have been hearing very positive feedback about the book. From the very little I know and heard, the book is parts young-adult, parts coming-of-age and parts romance. I am skeptical about the young adult trope but hey, Sally Rooney is an Irish author and I’ve always had a wonderful experience with Irish authors.

Lisa See’s The Island of Sea Women is a book that automatically captured my attention. It is a novel about the professional free-diving women of Jeju Island in South Korea. I’ve always been fascinated by them as I’ve seen them in numerous Korean variety shows. They seem to have a difficult life and heavy loads yet they carry on with a big smile. Moreover, The Island of Sea Women being a book friendship makes it even more enticing.

Hahaha. I have a very long list and five wouldn’t be enough to bring justice to my lengthy backlist TBR list. Here are five books from the list; I am going to look far so I took books from My 2019 Top 20 Reading List.
