Hi all!

With the year drawing to a close (oh my gosh, we’re less than two months away from a new year and a new decade!), I have decided to take on this book tag challenge. The basic premise of the book tag is to talk about books that readers have to complete before the year draws to a close. And for me, there’s a lot that I want and need to finish!

I’ve seen this blog going around lately so I thought I would give it a try. I know I’ve seen this tag during the same time last year and I can distinctly remember doing my own but I cannot seem to find it in my blog. Or perhaps I have neglected to do it. LOL! Without any more ado, here’s my version of End of Year Book Tag.

Are there any books that you started this year that you need to finish?

The most logical answer – my current read! Haha. Jonathan Franzen’s Freedom is part of my 2019 Top 20 Reading List. And after a very slow start to the year, I’m already on the seventeenth book on the said list. I now only have three more books from this list to complete and I can call my 2019 Top 20 Reading List a success!

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I’ve read quite a couple of books with autumn-like atmosphere in the past autumn season so I am considering my options here. I also have a lot of books to complete before the year ends so I might skip this one. Carlos Zafron Ruiz’ The Shadow of Wind is an option though. But it a stretch as it is too lengthy, which might hamper me from completing the other books in my already lengthy 2019 end of year reading list.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

Hmmm. I think I’ve already had my fill of 2019 releases. This 2019 is bound to be the year where the ration of current year releases is higher than my norm; I tend to be a back list reader.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

I have five books from my two 2019 reading lists but I am hoping to read these Man Booker shortlisted books before the year ends. Of the three, I am really keen on Ducks, Newburyport because of the positive feedback I’ve read about the book. The only challenge though is that it is too lengthy. Like 900-page lengthy.

Have you already started making reading plans for 2020?

Definitely! I want to be prepared for the new year. I am already perusing the 2019 reading lists I’ve done to reevaluate where I’ve gone wrong, especially the Beat the Back List as I have failed horribly on this challenge. On the brighter side, I’ve read more books published in the same year compared to previous years. That is a good sign.

For 2020, I’ve started researching for 2020 releases that I will include my 2020 Books I Look Forward to List. My hope is that I get to complete it this time as my 2018 and 2019 Books I Look Forward to Lists were utter failure, with a very meager 50% success rate; both lists had ten books only.

I am also thinking over what books to include my 2020 Top 20 Reading List; I have quite a long list of books to choose from so it is going to be a challenge. Lastly, I am also going over the same list to check which books to include in my 2020 Beat the Back List challenge.

There are so many things to do before the year ends and so many things to look forward to in 2020. I am hoping for success on both ends.
