This week’s topic: Top 5 Anticipated Books for 2020

I’ve always been a backlist type of reader but since I have started taking book blogging more seriously, I also tried to be in touch with the latest works. In 2018, I started listing 10 books I look forward to during the year. Unfortunately, I was not able to read or purchase all the books in the list. The same thing happened in 2019 but still I persisted with what has become a yearly tradition. Before I get carried away, here are the Top 5 anticipated books for 2020.

My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell. I kept on hearing positive feedback on this book. The hype is just too irresistible for me not to take note of this book. It’s been tagged as a combination of a lot of different works yet one that is uniquely its own. Moreover, it was recommended by a fellow book blogger whose judgment I trust.

The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel. I have never heard of St. John Mandel before nor have I encountered any of her works but I keep coming across her latest work in many a 2020 most anticipated releases lists. As one who is always willing to venture into the unknown, I am more than up for a new challenge and experience.

Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibanez. Okay, I admit it. I am guilty of being persuaded by the book’s cover. Its festive mood reeled me in. Latin American literature does have that certain flair that draws one in. The imagery is playing with my mind and is calling for my soul.

All my Mother’s Lovers by Ilana Masad. Ooh, a debut work. Ilana Masad, an Israeli American fiction is publishing her first novel. This book looks promising although I have never heard of Masad. Well, she does belong in a great company because all of the authors in this list are authors I have never previously heard of before. But I am changing that this year.

The Girl With the Louding Voice by Abi Dare. Lately, I’ve been venturing into the works of African authors like Chimamanda Ngozie Adiche, Chinua Achebe and Ben Okri. It is a facet of literature that I never expected would blow my mind. Here’s another African work that I am looking forward to.
