Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. This meme is quite easy to follow – just randomly pick a book from your to-be-read list and give the reasons why you want to read it. It is that simple.

This week’s book:

The Push by Ashley Audrain

Blurb from Goodreads

A tense, page-turning psychological drama about the making and breaking of a family–and a woman whose experience of motherhood is nothing at all what she hoped for–and everything she feared.

Blythe Connor is determined that she will be the warm, comforting mother to her new baby Violet that she herself never had.

But in the thick of motherhood’s exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter–she doesn’t behave like most children do.

Or is it all in Blythe’s head? Her husband, Fox, says she’s imagining things. The more Fox dismisses her fears, the more Blythe begins to question her own sanity, and the more we begin to question what Blythe is telling us about her life as well.

Then their son Sam is born–and with him, Blythe has the blissful connection she’d always imagined with her child. Even Violet seems to love her little brother. But when life as they know it is changed in an instant, the devastating fall-out forces Blythe to face the truth.

The Push is a tour de force you will read in a sitting, an utterly immersive novel that will challenge everything you think you know about motherhood, about what we owe our children, and what it feels like when women are not believed.

Why I Want To Read It

March has just started! Wow, it seems just like yesterday when 2021 started but now we’re already 2/12 done. I hope the past two months have been great to all of you and that you’re all safe and strong. Here’s to a great start to March! In about two weeks, Philippines will celebrate its first lockdown anniversary. Today is a great day in the fight against the pandemic because the vaccination program has kicked off with the first shots finally being injected on frontliners. Summer is also making its presence felt. The past few days were scorching. Oh summer, once my favorite season.

Mondays also mean Goodreads Monday updates. For this week’s update, I am featuring Ashley Audrain’s The Push. At the turn of the year, I started searching for books to include in my 2021 Books I Look Forward To. One title that I kept on encountering on several most anticipated lists is The Push. It was for this very same reason that I added it on my own list. Moreover, the book is getting some positive feedback from many booklovers across the world.

Going over the novel’s blurb, I have noted that it is a book about motherhood. I love my mother; my brother and I have always been mama’s boys. The writer, who I’ve never heard of and whose works I’ve never encountered before, has also integrated suspense into the narrative. It also has psychological elements. Personally, all these elements make for an interesting read for I am always interested in immersing in the mind of the characters. With this being said, I am fervently hoping that this is no The Girl on the Train.

How about you fellow reader, what book do you want to read? I hope you can share it in the comment box. For now, happy reading! Have a great week ahead!
