Happy Thursday everyone! Just one more day before the weekends. It is even more special here in the Philippines as August 30 is a national holiday. Who’d have thought that in a couple of days, it would already be September. Social media is already abound with Christmas-related themes. Philippines commences its holiday season in September, the so-called -ber months and extends until the Three Kings Celebration in early January.
But before we head to weekends and into September, let me do a final book tag for August. I came across The Inside and Out Book Tag through Riddhi @ Whispering Stories book blog earlier today. It piqued my interest so I thought I might as well do my own version. By the way, do checkout Riddhi’s blog; she has an interesting book blog and she also covers a wide array of subjects like music and other bookish discussions.
Without more ado, here is my version of the book tag.
Inside flap/back of the book summaries: Too much info? Or not enough?
Ideally, synopsis or book summaries are supposed to give just enough information to pique the reader’s interest. However, this is not always the case. Some summaries provide too much information about the book, enough to give the readers an idea of the plot and predict how it is going to turn out. This is what I dislike. There are also times when the summary does not match the story; this is even more frustrating. There are also books that don’t give enough information. At times, it works for the mystery compels me to read further. The irony, however, is that I often forget the summary when I start the book. HAHA!
New book: What form do you want it in? Be honest: Audiobook, eBook, Paperback or Hardcover?
I used to not like hardcover formats for they are bulky and are not easy to carry along. However, as I get to buy more books, I started to realize the aesthetic value hardcovers have. Because of this, my first option is always hardcover. However, availing hardcovers has become a challenge especially because of the pandemic. As such, I learned to settle for paperbacks. eBooks and audiobooks, on the other hand, are big no-nos for me. I tried eBooks once but it is not as stimulating as holding a physical book.
Scribble while you read? Do you like to write in your books; take notes, make comments, or do you keep your books clean, clean, clean?
As I have mentioned in previous posts, I dislike scribbling on my books, especially if they are new. Like Riddhi, I want to keep my books spotless. I do get disappointed when books I buy have notes on them. On another note, these scribbles provide interesting insights. But what I really don’t like are the underlined or highlighted sentences.
Does it matter to you whether the author is male or female when you’re deciding on a book? What if you’re unsure of the author’s gender?
Gender is not a primary consideration when I choose books to read. It is not even on my list of considerations when buying a book. It is either: 1) book title; 2) book cover; and 3) plot.
Ever read ahead? Or have you ever read the last page way before you got there?
When I am too invested in the story, or when the tenterhook is too much to bare, I am tempted to read ahead. However, I always manage to overcome these temptations. I only read the last page of books I am rereading.
Organized bookshelves or outrageous bookshelves?
An organized bookshelf is something I dream of. However, with the constant influx of books, I just end up stacking them over, with no particular scheme. Well I do separate books I have read and those I am yet to read. HAHA.
P.S. I have gotten rid of bookshelves and I am just stacking my books.
Have you ever bought a book based on the cover (alone)?
HAHAHA! This is one of my pet peeves whenever I pass by the bookstore. I am very much guilty of this. Some of the books I purchased solely on cover are Daniel Handler’s Why We Broke Up, and Benjamin Alire Saenz’s Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. This is specially true when I was younger. These days, however, I try to assess the books I buy because I already have too much book as it is.
Take it outside to read, or stay in?
Either way, I am good. Unless it is too hot or too cold outside.
And that is my Inside and Out Book Tag. I hope you enjoyed it. If you are interested to do the book tag, please go ahead. However, don’t forget to tag me so that I can check out your answers as well. Happy Thursday everyone! Keep safe and stay healthy!
