Christmas Song Book Tag

While browsing through the Internet, I came across this book tag at Words About Words. It piqued my interest. Upon checking my site, I noted that I have done the same book tag in 2019. However, it was a different version of the book tag. Here’s my 2021 Christmas Song Book Tag.

“All I Want for Christmas Is You”: Favorite bookish couple.

And right off the bat, I am encountering challenges answering the questions. HAHA. When I am reading, I rarely focus on the romantic angles. However, I must say that the romantic relationship between Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler in Margaret Mitchell’s highly-laudd novel Gone With The Wind has left a deep impression on me. Individually, they have strong and fiery personalities that complimented each other.

“I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Name a book where a character is away from home (school, vacation, etc.).

Unlike the first question, a lot of answers popped out for this one. However, it was C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia that first popped out in my gallery. Then again, it is not a shabby choice for Lewis transports the readers, and the Pevensies to the magical world of Narnia. Apart from Hogwarts, Narnia is a magical world I want to visit.

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”: Name your favorite “little” book (children’s book, short story, novella, etc.).

Among the writers that have made a deep impression on me these past five years is John Steinbeck, the winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature. My dive into his works began with The Pearl, a harrowing portrait of poverty, wickedness, and greed. Steinbeck tends to publish short and quick reads such Cannery Row, and Of Mice and Men.

“Santa Claus is Coming to Town“: What book(s) do you hope Santa brings you this year?

I actually have quite a lot of books that I am wishing for. HAHA. I listed some of them in this Top Ten Tuesday update.

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”: Which book turned your nose red (made you cry)?

I rarely cry over a book although a score has made me emotional. Of the few books that made me cry, it was Nicholas Sparks’ Message in a Bottle that I can vividly recall. I think read the book in one sitting but I wasn’t prepared with the emotional rollercoaster it would make me ride. Tears were flowing freely from my eyes.

“The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Your favorite book/kind of book to read during the holidays.

These past few years, I have been focusing on my reading challenges in the last month of the year. As such, I really don’t have a go-to read or preferred genre for the holidays. However, if I have to pick a book I would love to read during the holiday season, it would be J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. It does have a Christmasy atmosphere that is both warm and inviting.

“We Three Kings”: Your favorite trilogy.

I was torn between Patrick Ness’ Chaos Walking trilogy and Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games Trilogy. I both disliked how both trilogies have concluded but I am giving the slight edge to The Hunger Games. After all, it was the first trilogy that I read and liked.

“Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow”: A character you would love to be snowed in with.

Dang, me and my Emma Watson agenda. HAHA. I have fallen in love with Emma Watson and her portrayal of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies. It is for this reason that I have chosen Hermione Granger. I like individuals I can talk about serious matters with while covering a wide range of subjects. Besides, Hermione has been buried too deep in her books she needs some unwinding.

“Last Christmas”: A book that seriously let you down.

Poet Lang Leav made quite such a buzz in social media with her riveting poetry. When I learned that she would be publishing a novel for the first time, I was really looking forward to it. She had set such a high bar for herself I was expecting an engrossing story. My expectations were lofty! Sad Girls, however, failed to deliver, to say the least. I found the writing puerile, the plot predictable, and the characters forgettable. It was a very sad debut novel indeed.

“White Christmas”: An upcoming release you’re dreaming about.

This one is a timely question. A couple of days ago, I started searching for books to include in my 2022 Books I Look Forward To List (my version of a highly-anticipated books list). Two titles have immediately piqued my interest: Xochitl Gonzalez’s Olga Dies Dreaming and Quan Barry’s When I’m Gone, Look For Me In the East. Both authors are new to me and the former is even a debut novel. Nevertheless, I am excited about what both writers have in store.
