The Christmas Carol Book Tag

It is the last weekend of December. But it is just not the last Saturday of the month but also of the year and of the decade! Yes, 10 years have passed by in a jiffy without me realizing it. With this, it is time to wrap up my holiday season weekend book tag series with this timely and Christmas-themed book tag which I have encountered through Emer at A Little Haze Book Blog. Emer’s got a very interesting book blog; do check it out.

The Questions

Question 1: The Ghost of Christmas Past – A book that was a childhood favourite

Now, this one is a difficult question because I wasn’t much of a book reader as a child. Had I started reading at a young age, Katherine Paterson’s Bridge to Terabithia  might have suited my melancholic taste (back then, haha).

Question 2: The Ghost of Christmas Present – A recent book that you think will become one of your all time favourites

Question 3: The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come – A book coming out next year that you’re most excited about

I’ve been hearing a lot of positive notes on Emily St. John Mandel’s The Glass Hotel so I am betting on this one. Hopefully it lives up to the hype. P.S. I have never read any of Mandel’s works before. I also have to apologize for admitting that I’ve never heard of her before until recently.

Question 4: Bah, Humbug! – A book that everyone else loves that you just can’t stand

I might be on the minority vis-a-vis Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train. I felt it over-hyped. The writing did it for me; I found it bland.

Question 5: Bob Cratchit – An old dependable that you always recommend

Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children is peak classic for me.

Question 6: Tiny Tim – An underhyped book that you think deserves more love

Sick Kids in Love by Hannah Moskowitz

Dasa Drndic’s Trieste contains some of the most powerful depiction of the atrocities of the Second World War yet it is still to hit the mainstream. It is subtle yet brilliantly provocative. It deserves more love, especially those who are into historical fiction.

Question 7: Today? Why it’s Christmas Day! – What’s a book that always gets you in the mood for Christmas (apart from A Christmas Carol)?

Dang. Nearly got me. Although I have never read it, I think that Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is peak Christmas-themed book. But since it has been cut out of the picture, I’ll go with my second go-to book, or series rather. J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Series gives off so much Christmas vibe.
