Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. This meme is quite easy to follow – just randomly pick a book from your to-be-read list and give the reasons why you want to read it. It is that simple.

This week’s book:

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

816nC7YETOLBlurb from Goodreads

Bestselling author Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Determined to take his future into his own hands, Junior leaves his troubled school on the rez to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot.

Heartbreaking, funny, and beautifully written, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is based on the author’s own experiences, coupled with poignant drawings by Ellen Forney that reflect the character’s art, chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one Native American boy as he attempts to break away from the life he was destined to live.

Why I Want To Read It

This month, I have been immersing in American literature. I have already completed reading Kathryn Stockett’s The Help, and William Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom! I am currently reading Charles Frazier’s Cold Mountain, which is the book featured in my last Goodreads Monday update. For this Goodreads Monday update, I am featuring another book written by an American writer.

It has been some time since I first encountered Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. When I first came across the book in must-read list, it immediately rung a bell and I am not sure why. My first impression is that it was adapted into a movie (which apparently is not). Anyway, it was a book title that immediately piqued my interest. Surprisingly, or perhaps not, the reason I wanted to read the book is because of its creative and imaginative title. The book title used to be a primary basis in my purchase of books, especially when I was younger. I hope the book lives up to my expectation, which I admit, is pretty high.

And thus ends my Goodreads Monday post! How about you fellow reader, what book do you want to read? I hope you can share it in the comment box. For now, happy reading! Have a great week ahead!
