Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners but is now currently being hosted by Emily @ Budget Tales Book Blog. This meme is quite easy to follow – just randomly pick a book from your to-be-read list and give the reasons why you want to read it. It is that simple.

This week’s book:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Blurb from Goodreads

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

Why I Want To Read It

And it is Monday again! For the first time in nearly two years, I am home in the province. Thankfully, the internet connection has been stable. We are less five days away from Christmas! The holiday season and the holiday cheer is definitely in the air. The cold breeze is certainly making its presence felt. Grrrr. Beyond that, a new year is waving. The prospect is thrilling, for who wouldn’t be excited for what 2022 has in store? However, at the same time, the new year fills me with anxiety. Still, I look forward to it with hope, that in the new year, our lives will all be better, that the pandemic will finally see its end. But as the year dwindles down to its last few seconds, I hope your prayers get answered, that you all have received the gifts that you have been wishing for. I hope that you are reaping the fruits of the seeds you have sowed throughout the year. I pray for healing and forgiveness.

It has been a manic Monday. While most are expecting to be slowing down for the holiday season, some are still kicking in high gear, like me. HAHA. Reading-wise, I have been focusing on my reading challenges. Thankfully, my mad dash for the finish line has been producing good results. I have now completed two of the three reading challenges I am aiming to complete, and I am one book short of completing the last one. Even though it has been a hectic few weeks, I always make it a point to post a Goodreads Monday update. These past few weeks, I have been featuring books I recently added to my “want to read” list. In keeping up with this theme, I am featuring another new addition to my (exponentially) growing reading list. For this week’s update I am featuring Taylor Jenkins Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

I have been encountering The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo whenever I drop by the bookstore. However, I have always overlooked it, picking a different title. I don’t know. I just don’t find it appealing or fancy enough for my consideration. I found it whimsical, the same way I previously saw Silvia Moreno Garcia’s works. This year, she published a new novel, Malibu Rising. Again, I wasn’t keen on the book. Had I not learned that it was a work of historical fiction, I would have not bothered with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (and also, Malibu Rising). I now realize how puerile my reasons were for not giving The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo the light of day. Nevertheless, I have obtained a copy of the book and I am honestly intrigued. The book’s premise has piqued my interest. Hollywood. The scandalous life of a Hollywood jetsetter (albeit fictional)? Sign me up!

How about you fellow reader? What are the most recent additions to your reading lists? Perhaps you could share it in the comment box. For now, happy Monday! I hope you will all have a great week ahead! And as always, happy reading!
