Happy Tuesday again everyone, the first Tuesday of 2022. I hope that the year is going great, so far. It is my fervent hope that 2022 will be a year of good tidings, healing, and forgiveness for everyone. I hope and pray that 2022 will not only be a good year but a great one. As it is Tuesday, it is also time for a Top 5 Tuesday update. Top 5 Tuesday was originally created by Shanah @ the Bionic Bookworm but is now currently being hosted by Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads.

This week’s topic: Bookish Resolutions for 2022

New year’s resolutions have become synonymous with the start of a new year. Like many readers, I do prepare my own bookish resolutions, which I usually set to at least ten resolutions. They are mostly achievable but unfortunately, I keep on failing in achieving all of these resolutions. Nevertheless, there were some items from my resolutions which I was able to tick off. For this Top 5 Tuesday, I will be sharing five of my 2022 resolutions.

READ MORE AND BUY LESS!

For the nth year running, it is my resolution for the year to read more and buy less. This is something that has been part of my bookish resolutions ever since I started creating reading resolutions. As you might have already guessed, I keep failing on this. Horribly. I tried everything, from setting quarterly limits to keeping off the bookstore whenever I drop by the mall. However, it was all for naught. 2021 was no different so I am including this one again as part of my 2022 reading resolutions. Hopefully I will be more successful this year. *Coughs*

Read at least three works by Filipino authors.

I didn’t realize that this was part of my 2021 Reading Resolutions. From this reaction, I surmise you were able to guess how I fared. Yes, I failed; I only managed to read two works by Filipino authors in 2021. I was one book short. So again, I am setting this as part of my 2022 reading resolution. I used to be averse to the idea of reading works by Filipino authors but I have been building my appetite for the works of my fellow Filipinos. I have unread Filipino works in my bookshelf and I can’t wait to read both. I am also considering reading more of Gina Apostol’s works.

Interact more with fellow book bloggers

Compared to when I started blogging, I am now more active in interacting with fellow bloggers. This is something that I still consider in 2022. I am hoping to meet and get to know more book bloggers this year.

 Read diversely.

Apropos reading diversely, I can say that 2021 was a success. My reading journey had a healthy mix of historical, magical realism, and fantasy fictions. If there is one thing that I can be proud of in terms of reading is that I can adapt to various genres and subjects (except perhaps to horror, haha). Mixing it up was effective in getting over reading slumps. It also helped me fight reading boredom.

Read 100 books for the year

Ever since I started reading, it was my goal to read 100 books for the year. However, I have always failed. I did come close three times, in 2016, 2020 and 2021. In each of these three years, I have read at least 91 books. Just when the goal seems reachable, I start running out of energy. This is especially true towards the end of the year. I am, after all, a mood reader. This is a lofty task but maybe 2022 is finally the year that I breakthrough? I do hope so. HAHA. Nevertheless, the goal is still to enjoy the reading experience.
